My name is Anaka Davidsen. I am the Founder and President of STEMand. I’m a junior at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville where I will serve on my school's Honor Council, Vestry Leadership team and I’m the Co-President for our school’s JaxTHRIVE chapter (our mission is to mentor young refugee children in Jacksonville). In terms of STEM, I loved Chemistry and I am looking forward to taking AP Bio and Physics. Beyond STEM, I’m a varsity cheerleader, I dance in my school’s dance ensemble, and I have a new found love for photography. I started this non-profit for a few reasons. First, finding ways to impact my community brings me joy. Second, I love school and I think it is because as a child I had very happy memories associated with learning and I wanted to find ways to create fond memories of getting introduced to STEM for others. Third, I don’t think kids who like STEM should be labeled as just “STEM-kids” because many kids love STEM and other things. I love STEM, dance, and photography and believe that everybody deserves the chance to get exposed to possible passions beyond STEM. This is why I decided to create my non-profit STEMand! To help children with education inequities to have fun STEM introductions and to get exposed to other possible passions. Hi, my name is Olivia Caserta and I am the Co-founder and Chief of Staff for STEMand. I am fascinated by everything in the science and math field. I love STEMand’s mission to create opportunities for underprivileged children to be exposed to STEM. I hope that we can convey the importance of STEM by demonstrating the key concepts in science, technology, engineering and math through simpler yet captivating experiments that can leave a lasting impression. This upcoming year I will be a junior at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville. I am a member of the Honor and Discipline council as well as an ambassador for our school. Outside of school I regularly volunteer for organizations such as JaxTHRIVE and Spread Cream Cheese Not. STEM has been one of my interests ever since I was young, for example I participated in a First Lego League robotics team, where I was the only girl. I love how STEMand demonstrates that having an interest in STEM based activities is not limiting, and can be enjoyed alongside other interests. Although I am very dedicated to academics, I love to spend my free time outdoors and staying active. At Episcopal I am a member of the varsity softball team and enjoy playing, practicing and spending time with my teammates. One of my favorite hobbies is photography because I get to capture the world in different ways. I am a part of STEMand so that I can make an impact on children in underserved communities by exposing them to all the possibilities of STEM. Please feel free to contact me: omcaserta@icloud.com
